Study reveals perceptions and priorities of over 900 APAC CIOs, including 370 from ASEAN, concerning AI.
Lenovo’s latest report reveals interesting industry insights into Asia Pacific’s progress in AI adoption.
Offering a deep dive into the landscape of AI adoption across the APAC region, the report – commissioned by Lenovo and conducted by IDC – found that organizations in the region are planning to increase AI spending by 45% in 2024 compared to 2023.
The report noted the massive shift in CIO priorities from last year with AI topping the list. Notably, revenue and profit growth have shifted from the top priority in 2023 to number three in 2024, while customer experience and satisfaction have surged two spots to become top priorities. This highlights a strategic shift towards cutting-edge innovations and a customer-centric approach in the evolving business landscape.
However, a divergence emerges between business leaders and CIOs concerning AI technologies. Business leaders are keen to prioritize generative AI (GenAI) to enhance customer experience and drive outcomes, while CIOs express cautious optimism.
ASEAN CIOs rank GenAI as the third tech priority, prioritizing instead AI technologies that focus on security, infrastructure, and cyber resiliency. In ASEAN, the study had also found that 94% of CIOs deem AI critical for business in 2024, yet only 11% have invested in GenAI.
Some other interesting findings from the report include:
- 52% CIOs in ASEAN+ admit to recruitment challenges for AI-related positions
- 69% CIOs across Asia Pacific prefer AI workloads in non-public cloud environments
- 68% of CIOs in Singapore are already using AI to enhance their security framework with 25% planning to invest
