The Indonesian digital bank will scale current cloud banking architecture, API-first banking, and AI automation to reach more underbanked populations.
To address the banking needs of Indonesia’s largely unbanked and underbanked population, a digital banking institution based in Indonesia has undergone a significant digital overhaul since 2024.
The move follows Krom Bank’s announcement on 15 October 2025 of the renewal of its technology platform partnership after initially launching its fully digital banking application in 2024.
Facing an ambition to reach more than 20m accounts by 2030, the bank had set out to address challenges in scaling, compliance, and customer service efficiency for a market where three-quarters of the population lacked sufficient access to modern financial products. In its early digital journey, the bank had had to satisfy rapid time-to-market expectations, product scalability needs, and rigorous regulatory compliance — all while competing for younger, digital-native consumers demanding seamless experiences.
With the help of its existing tech platform vendor (appointed in Mar 2022), the bank expects to overhaul the current cloud banking infrastructure over the next five years in a renewed partnership arrangement.
Key technical strategies and solutions adopted by the bank during its transformation have included:
- Migration from on-premises systems to cloud-based infrastructure for increased elasticity and resilience
- Adoption of a modular core platform enabling composable and API-first banking
- Integration of advanced security and compliance frameworks to ensure regulatory alignment at scale
- Leveraging automation and generative AI to drive faster product rollouts and improved workforce efficiency
- Enabling the development and deployment of digital products—such as high-yield savings and loans—with rapid iteration cycles
Said Anton Hermawan, the bank’s President Director: “The flexibility of our core technology has allowed us to launch high-impact products more quickly, maintain compliance, and deliver a better experience for customers on our journey to expand access to banking in Indonesia.”
According to David Becker, Managing Director and Head of APAC Sales, Mambu, the cloud banking platform vendor: “We’re proud to renew our partnership and continue supporting Krom Bank’s mission to expand access to high-quality digital banking in Indonesia.”
