Zuno General Insurance blazes new trails in reforming driver behavior in India

Zuno General Insurance blazes new trails in reforming driver behavior in India

A crash-detection feature in the firm’s mobile app automatically dispatches emergency response teams to an accident scene, among other automated actions.

When road accidents run out of control in a country, how can technology be leveraged to nudge road users to prioritize safety, and also improve the speed of dispatching emergency-response teams to the scene?

According to the official statistics in India, 461,312 road accidents (and over 168,000 fatalities) had been recorded in 2022 — an 11.9% increase from 2021. The ensuing call for the development of more advanced emergency response systems has led to some initiatives in the country’s motor insurance industry.

On 12 June 2025, Zuno General Insurance, a new-age digital insurer, introduced the first-ever “real-time crash detection feature” into its motor insurance policy.

This free addition, in the form of the firm’s digital mobile app, uses an advanced mobile telematics system that detects crashes automatically and alerts the firm’s support team to send real-time roadside assistance to the accident scene. Additionally, the app will initiate a claims process and aid without requiring customer intervention. This saves critical time during emergencies, ensuring help arrives when it is needed most.

Existing insurance features already reward safe driving through a unique “Pay How You Drive” scheme based on real-time driving behavior. By tracking metrics such as speed, braking, and consistency, the app encourages responsible driving habits, rewarding customers with good measured driving habits through policy-renewal discounts. With the newest feature (crash detection), the firm is blazing the trail in motor insurance policies in the country, by keeping pace with today’s connected world: smart, supportive, and centered around the customer.

The firm’s Managing Director and CEO, Shanai Ghosh, has noted that the goal is to turn insurance into a proactive safety partner with “an insurance that watches out for you, supports you in critical moments, and puts your safety first. With real-time crash detection, we’re taking a decisive leap forward — moving from reactive support to proactive safety. It’s a powerful example of how technology and empathy can come together to transform customer experience.”
