Vice president of aggressive AI marketing warns of workplace communications “doom loop”

By DigiconAsia Editors | Friday, September 4, 2026, 2:37 PM Asia/Singapore

Vice president of aggressive AI marketing warns of workplace communications “doom loop”

Using AI to “avoid the work humans do” can land enterprises in a rut where little useful workplace value is added.

According to reports by PC Magazine and other publications, an executive vice president at Microsoft who oversees LinkedIn, Office, Teams, Outlook, and Copilot has publicly warned that AI-generated content is creating a “doom loop” in professional environments, where documents written by AI are subsequently summarized by AI without producing anything of genuine value.

In a short LinkedIn post published on 31 August 2026, the executive had described receiving a document that was “clearly generated by AI”, which was then summarized with AI — only to discover that the entire exchange yielded nothing useful: “I read it, realized it was all AI, had my AI summarize it and ended up with nothing that brought new thinking to the idea…  This is a doom loop.”

The post cautioned that businesses risk spending money on AI tools simply to avoid the work employees are supposed to do: thinking, writing, and reading. Unchecked use of generative AI could produce “an ocean of sameness, generic-ness” across workplace communications: “AI slop isn’t happening just on social networks … it’s happening in the day to day of work.” [Note: The term “AI slop” refers to low-quality, generic content produced quickly with AI tools and distributed with little or no human editing.]

Windows Central reported that firm’s president has endorsed the post.

Irony of non-aligned AI over-marketing

The comments carry an unmistakable irony. Microsoft has spent the past two years integrating its Copilot AI assistant into nearly every product it sells; encouraged businesses to adopt AI agents and autonomous workflows as part of its vision for the future of work; and now endorses a top executive’s critique, which follows a pattern of top Microsoft executives publicly grappling with the consequences of the firm’s aggressive AI strategy.

The firm has begun offering tools to let users remove AI components from Windows and added AI disclaimers to its productivity apps acknowledging that “AI-generated content may be inaccurate.”

The “doom loop” post has drawn both support and ridicule online, with critics noting that the executive responsible for some of the most AI-saturated products on the market is now lamenting the output they produce.
