Indonesia’s leading automotive manufacturer safeguards continuity of vehicle production lines and customer deliveries with Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery.

Astra Daihatsu Motor has implemented Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery to minimize the risk of costly downtime on its vehicle production lines.

Astra Daihatsu Motors employs 12,000 people across five sites, including two automotive production facilities, in Jakarta and Karawang, West Java. These assembly lines produce one vehicle per minute, which equates to around 550,000 Daihatsu and Toyota cars a year.

To meet Astra Daihatsu Motor’s digitalization plans, the solution needed to be able to support cloud services, while complying with data protection policies and regulatory requirements.

“Each assembly line produces one vehicle per minute, so every minute the total cost from downtime is approximately US$1,000. It means we could lose almost US$60,000 per hour in the event of an outage,” said Astra Daihatsu Motor’s Head of IT, Akmal Kusumajaya.

Deployment benefits

Astra Daihatsu Motor deployed Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery across all its facilities in just two weeks, with support of partner PT Nagitec. The solution now protects 140 applications, over 12TB of data and a variety of databases.

Rapid restore capabilities have enabled the company to improve recovery times by 80% and enabled Astra Daihatsu Motor to achieve optimal availability for production and critical business systems ensuring maximum business efficiency with minimal downtime.

“Commvault Complete Backup & Recovery has transformed our disaster recovery capabilities,” said Kusumajaya. “We can now recover more quickly from IT outages, which will safeguard the continuity of vehicle production schedules and customer deliveries.”

By preventing disruption to its production lines, Astra Daihatsu Motor can avoid staff overtime costs, which can impact the company’s bottom line. Also, the IT team at Astra Daihatsu Motors can now focus on added-value activities, accelerating the company’s adoption of cloud and digital technologies.

“We have a digitalization roadmap for the next five years, and Commvault will support us in our ongoing journey,” commented Kusumajaya. “It is the market leader for data protection and is easy to operate and maintain.”

“It is exactly this combination of assuring both business availability, through minimized downtime, with compliant digital transformation support that we are looking to deliver to all of our customers across ASEAN,” said Grace Ho, ASEAN Area Vice President, Commvault.  “We are very proud to work with PT Nagitec, our trusted strategic partner in Indonesia, to deliver these solutions to Astra Daihatsu Motors.”
