As air travel volumes return to normality, one aerospace maintenance, repair and overhaul firm is leveraging more cloud technology and digitalization
As the travel industry regains its footing post-COVID, one firm is being relied on to handle the worldwide maintenance of over 20% of certain Rolls-Royce passenger airliner engines.
This is a critical responsibility, and Singapore Aero Engine Services Private Limited (SAESL) is constantly fine-tuning its core IT systems, data processes, and operational technology (OT) infrastructure to improve efficiency and creative problem-solving.
Said the firm’s CEO, Simon Middlebrough: “… We manage extensive volumes of critical engine data, and organizing this data efficiently can be challenging,” referring to a critical need to have advanced data management systems and IT infrastructure to meet the rising global demand for aero engine maintenance, repair and overhaul.
On 13 Feb 2025, the firm announced the implementation of a comprehensive end-to-end solution using advanced original equipment manufacturer technologies for IT infrastructure including systems and network equipment configuration, uninterruptible power supplies, and cloud capabilities.
The streamlined system enables SAESL technicians to work more efficiently with a better user experience via a cloud-centric digital infrastructure including IT communication, OT, office administration, and data approval and tracking management capabilities. This integration aims to simplify network management, enhance operational efficiency, and improve system resilience, giving the firm a robust and scalable solution that supports seamless connectivity and improved efficiency across its new infrastructure.
Additionally, the firm will be relying on cloud storage solutions to automate the categorization of engine data (made easily accessible in the form of videos, pictures, audio, and text files) to facilitate faster team collaboration at a reduced storage cost. Cloud storage automation will also be used to improve regulatory compliance in terms of the management and upkeep of critical engineering documents.
According to Andrew Lim, Managing Director, Kyndryl ASEAN, the firm appointed since 2022 to provide digitalization expertise: “We are honored that SAESL has chosen Kyndryl to establish a robust data foundation, which will support ongoing maintenance and innovation efforts for (their Seletar Aerospace Park) facility.”
