China’s AI-powered health manager app connects millions to better healthcare resources

China’s AI-powered health manager app connects millions to better healthcare resources

Recent digital transformation efforts streamline patient access, enable medical report analysis, and integrate hospitals, doctors, and advanced AI nationwide.

Since September 2024, China has seen a surge of over 100 million individuals seeking more convenient ways to manage daily healthcare and connect with medical professionals.

Navigating a fragmented healthcare system previously meant inconsistent access to care, lagging medical report interpretation, and difficulty finding appropriate doctors. Frustrations stemmed from siloed systems and limited digital tools.

An announcement on 28 July 2025, following the official launch in June 2025, marked a turning point as digital transformation initiatives led by Ant Group addressed these challenges at scale. New AI-powered healthcare management services were deployed following months of public testing.

Key technical advances in this transformation include a “healthcare manager” app involving:

  • Scalable AI-driven healthcare support capable of analyzing medical reports and offering reliable guidance
  • Natural language interfaces for intuitive service engagement, facilitating appointment bookings and information retrieval
  • Integration of over 5,000 medical institutions and nearly 1 million clinicians into a unified digital network
  • Co-development of advanced large language models for healthcare service delivery, medical data processing, and real-time doctor agent responses

“We needed tools to simplify access to healthcare and make sense of medical information for everyday people,” said a representative of the beneficiary group. “This approach is empowering more of us to manage our health … with greater confidence and reliability.”

Cyril Han, CEO, Ant Group, the vendor that led the digitalization initiative, remarked that, in the age of Artificial General Intelligence, increased focus on AI applications is “driving breakthroughs to improve the daily lives for communities” in the country.

This shift has connected millions of beneficiaries in China to digital healthcare services, suggesting that the integration of AI and natural language technologies can streamline patient journeys and help bridge gaps across urban and rural settings. This case study illustrates how national-scale tech adoption needs to prioritize inclusion, operational efficiency, and ease of use for everyday users.
