PT Lippo General Insurance Tbk launches a mobile app that rewards vehicle operators for improving their driving habits and safety awareness

Driving habits in Indonesia are a topic of concern for road users in urban areas. Various reports are available as testimony to a certain type of driving culture in the various cities. For example, in Jakarta, chaotic traffic conditions require drivers to be highly vigilant or face getting into accidents.

Traffic laws are often treated as guidelines rather than mandates; but zigzagging aggressively through traffic and ignoring lane markings endangers other road users on a daily basis in certain cities.

In an attempt to change the ingrained road culture, a general insurance firm in Indonesia announced on 6 Feb 2025, the use of mobile technology to encourage safer driving habits. 

The app, called MyGo+, analyzes real-time driving data (such as distance traveled and acceleration patterns) to inform driving behavior, and offers a reward system to motivate responsible driving. In particular, the app features three components:

  1. Analysis of driving behavior through telematic monitoring of vehicle speed and acceleration changes.
  2. Gamification: Users are incentivized to accept challenges to improve their driving styles and habits by hitting monthly targets that track progress.
  3. Rewards system: Points are awarded in real time for safe driving, and they can be redeemed for attractive vouchers.

Developed not just for its own policy holders but for the public in general, the app for both iOS and Android smart devices leverages AI and ML so that driving data is accurately collected and adjusted for external factors such as difficult road conditions or network environments.

According to a spokesperson for PT Lippo General Insurance Tbk (LGI), the firm that developed the app, its own policy holders who use the app to improve their driving habits can enjoy discounts and other benefits when purchasing certain insurance products.

The app is a timely measure that supports the country’s efforts to improve road safety and reduce traffic accident rates.
